It has been an impressive campaign for Bologna as the in-demand Thiago Motta’s men put Roma to the sword at the Olimpico with another brilliant performance from Joshua Zirkzee and co., all but sealing 4th place in Serie A. It looks like Roma and Atalanta will battle it out for the 5th and final Champions League place. Or is there a surprise in store from the likes of Lazio and Napoli?

[00:01:02] At Bet365, we don't do ordinary. We believe that every sport should be epic. Every home run,
[00:01:09] every hit, every inning, every play, from the moments that are legendary to the ones that fly
[00:01:15] under the radar. Whether it's a walk-off, grand slam, or a base hit to center field, whatever the
[00:01:20] sport, whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet365. 21 plus only must be physically located
[00:01:28] in Virginia. Gambling problem called 1-800-GAMBLER. One thing that's left now for Inter is to try
[00:01:37] and chase remaining records. They can't top Juventus' 102 point tally, but they could get 101
[00:01:43] if they were to win their final five matches. Some of those other records that you mentioned,
[00:01:48] clean sheet records and their goal differences is something to behold. In this talk now of even
[00:01:52] their game against Torino, which is slated for three o'clock on Saturday, being pushed back to
[00:01:57] 12.30 on Sunday so that they can really enjoy an extra special celebration in Piazza Duomo.
[00:02:03] The fans already flocked there last night, but that was the derby and that was the ultimate
[00:02:09] du nu monde to what's been an amazing campaign for Inter. But in some ways, on a smaller scale,
[00:02:17] it's been an equally impressive campaign for Bologna. Just when we thought they were starting to lose
[00:02:22] some momentum and they struggled for goals, Nicky, they went to Rome and beat Roma. Not many
[00:02:28] teams have defeated Daniela di Rossi's gialla Rossi since he's been at the helm.
[00:02:33] No, it was this, I think any other weekend, this would have been the story of the weekend.
[00:02:38] It was this sort of mouthwatering appetizer, I guess for the big title this idea at San Ziro.
[00:02:46] Really, is it wrong to call it astonishing when we've been astonished by Tiago Mata's team so many
[00:02:51] times that you almost are no longer completely caught off guard by it? But some brilliant
[00:02:56] football again, Alazuzzi with his scissor kick. It wasn't the cleanest scissor kick I've ever
[00:03:01] seen, but it was still a scissor kick. So we give him that one. A really sort of confidence,
[00:03:06] swaggering attacking performance at Zerxay again on fire. And I think even that moment when
[00:03:12] Roma got the goal back and you thought, okay, it's at the Olympico, they're rocking,
[00:03:15] they've been on such a great run under did Rossi, they want to get back into those
[00:03:18] Champions League places as well. And then just almost immediately it felt like
[00:03:22] Alexis Salamakis goes down the other end. And again, it's not just scoring, it's not just
[00:03:27] the fact of going through one up, but there's something of a swagger about it, about that
[00:03:32] chip over the goalkeeper and just being like, yeah, we can do that. We can make that look easy.
[00:03:36] And it was a really, really impressive performance. And especially when you think as well,
[00:03:42] for a large part of the season, actually we were saying, well, Bologna are great at home,
[00:03:47] but are they as good on the road? I mean, this is a big, big away performance in a game that
[00:03:52] may well decide or have a big impact on Champions League spots because Bologna now
[00:03:58] looking pretty locked into the top four, which means it's between Roma and Atlanta probably
[00:04:02] for the fifth. It could be amazing if they meet in the Europa League final and one of them is
[00:04:06] going to come fifth and the other sixth and the team that wins it might end up finishing sixth,
[00:04:11] and they both get into the Champions League anyway. I wonder if they'd sort of accept that trade-off
[00:04:16] and sort of be Scott or probably not if there's a trophy on the line. But
[00:04:21] Mina, did you see Roma as I had some very draining matches recently? They had the
[00:04:25] Derby against Lazio, then they had the two-legged tie against Milan. In between they had that
[00:04:31] very emotionally draining game in Audine when Indica collapsed and thankfully he's on the mend,
[00:04:35] but was it just a case of those matches catching up with Roman now or is that doing a disservice to
[00:04:41] Bologna? It's both. I do think that Bologna deserve all the credit they've been given
[00:04:47] for playing the game so well and for playing every game this season so well honestly. But
[00:04:53] especially it's like you mentioned, Niki, it's getting the away match because
[00:04:57] they've been the second best home team in Serie A, but away from home that's where they faltered at times.
[00:05:04] But to play against Roma in that manner it deserves a life in that Roma are exhausted
[00:05:10] and you saw that a little bit from their performance. It's also very difficult to play
[00:05:15] against Bologna when you are exhausted because of the way that they rotate the ball
[00:05:19] and the movements they make force you to chase a lot. So it is that style of play that is
[00:05:24] a little bit tiring especially after you've just taken on Milan. And I do like this thought because
[00:05:31] a lot of the times when we explain about exhaustion, De Rossi put it perfectly. It's not
[00:05:35] necessarily physical exhaustion. It's the mental exhaustion as well. Europa League semi-final.
[00:05:43] No, it's the quarter final and that energy that you expend in making sure that nothing
[00:05:50] gets by you and that you're tackling perfectly and that you're on your game. And I mean Mancini
[00:05:54] was crying when you scored that goal, but there was a lot of emotions being expended in that match.
[00:05:59] And then to come on and play Bologna in this vital run up as well. I'll be honest with you,
[00:06:04] De Rossi, I'm in love with De Rossi. I think he is such an exceptional, exceptional,
[00:06:09] there's just no way I imagine this, you know? And I know that so many people had come out
[00:06:14] and said, oh well we knew it because he was so smart and he had done so well when he was
[00:06:18] studying and to get his UEFA lices, De Piero spoke at length about how clever he was in those courses.
[00:06:25] And I get that, but you still think to yourself, well, he didn't do too well with Spal and, you
[00:06:29] know, he was a warrior on the pitch. Was he going to be able to exude the calm that's required
[00:06:34] of him on the bench? And yet he comes up with these brilliant tactics all the time like,
[00:06:38] you know, like what he did to Milan and to bring out the best in players like Cellec,
[00:06:44] bad example to use because he got sent off. But you know, to bring out the players of
[00:06:49] Pellegrini, the brilliance of Pellegrini as well. Support for Serie A Chronicles is brought to you

[00:07:40] 3. At Bed 365, we don't do ordinary. We believe that every sport should be epic. Every home run,
[00:08:01] every hit, every inning, every play from the moments that are legendary to the ones that fly
[00:08:06] under the radar. See for yourself when you sign up today and get $150 in bonus bets when you bench

[00:08:19] be physically located in Virginia. Gambling problem called 1-800-GAMBLER. Terms and conditions apply.
[00:08:25] I love that he gave them back their confidence and so I have a lot of time for Dero C but
[00:08:29] I also have a lot of time for Tiago Motta who it's funny because Patrick, you and I were just
[00:08:34] we were all discussing here when Xerxes was absent and we were like, oh, this is going to be a problem.
[00:08:40] Are they going to be able to continue it without Xerxes? Then they lose Louis Ferguson as well
[00:08:45] and I'm thinking to myself, well, that's a huge loss for one of your best midfielders linked to
[00:08:49] all the top teams. So sad for him because he was supposed to go with Scotland to Euro 2024
[00:08:55] but that loss I thought would have even more of an impact and it doesn't. It doesn't matter
[00:09:01] who you remove from this and he was brilliant. Is Motta never complains either about any of this?
[00:09:05] He always just finds a way to continue showing off his style of play, to continue in this manner
[00:09:12] playing Cala Fiori as a full exceptional watch. His development onto Motta is it's staggering.
[00:09:19] It's staggering what Motta has done to this team mostly for how he has really developed
[00:09:24] those players and I think both these coaches really merit the position in the Champions
[00:09:28] League because I want to see their football next season. If Motta leaves Bologna then I'm really sad
[00:09:33] to have Bologna in the Champions League next season because I do worry that whoever takes over
[00:09:39] will not be able to show us what we've been able to see all season.
[00:09:43] And that's why there's been so much clamour as well for Thiago Motta by Juventus fans
[00:09:48] that are dissatisfied with Max Allegri because they would argue that the personnel is of a
[00:09:54] lesser quality even when key players are missing. If the system is well rooted with the players and
[00:09:59] they come in knowing what they need to do it doesn't matter too much. I mean of course you're
[00:10:03] still going to have important players, star players that make the difference like ZXA,
[00:10:06] like Ferguson as you mentioned there but if the other players have all been well versed
[00:10:11] and come in knowing what they need to do I mean we saw El Azuzzi came in for Ferguson
[00:10:15] and scored that unbelievable goal so I think there's a lot to be said for that.
[00:10:19] Personally on De Rossi I still think the sample size is too small to be completely
[00:10:24] bowled over by him. I'm very impressed by him it's been a good start but I think we need to see
[00:10:30] a little bit more from him over a more sustained period but Nicky you made a good point.
[00:10:36] Bologna now on 62 points in fourth spot, a couple behind Juventus but then after that Roma
[00:10:43] 55 in fifth, Atalanta 54 in sixth position. Lazio now back in the conversation.
[00:10:49] If Roma's match against Doudinezio where there's still 20 minutes to play if that were to end in
[00:10:53] a draw Roma would have another point but suddenly Lazio out of nowhere are right back in the
[00:10:59] conversation with Igor Tudor. Yeah that's totally true, Lazio sort of quietly just in touching
[00:11:07] distance and perhaps not to be too overlooked. As you said nice win over Genoa at the weekend
[00:11:15] Luis Alberto who may well be on the way out but nevertheless if he can contribute in this last
[00:11:20] part of the season and give them a platform to do more next time around we shall see.
[00:11:25] There's going to be a really fascinating series of knock-ons from managerial changes and also how
[00:11:33] these champions league spots all for I think at the end of the season so it's a little bit
[00:11:37] unpredictable but you're right Lazio are in that conversation. I would still expect one of
[00:11:42] Roma and Atalanta to get it given those full game in hand for Atalanta and a small part of
[00:11:48] them for Roma but yeah they're doing well under Tudor they've only lost one game under Tudor
[00:11:53] they're picking up points again. Roma's next game is the deadly del Soler they're all away at
[00:11:58] Napoli who are in complete disarray I feel like we say the same things about Napoli every single
[00:12:02] week so let's focus on Empoli who have now won five of their last seven matches against Napoli
[00:12:07] I mean if there is a bogey team for the Parthenon play it's Empoli and they never look like conceding
[00:12:14] as well they scored early kept a clean sheet against Napoli. Davide Nicola he's doing it again.
[00:12:20] It almost feels like Empoli comes around every time Napoli are in complete disarray
[00:12:26] it's almost like they're lucky to always play Napoli at just the right time because
[00:12:30] you're at your worst this is the time that we're going to come and play you.
[00:12:38] At Bet365 we don't do ordinary we believe that every sport should be epic every home run every hit
[00:12:51] every inning every play from the moments that are legendary to the ones that fly under the radar
[00:12:57] whether it's a walk-off grand slam or a base hit to center field whatever the sport whatever the
[00:13:02] moment it's never ordinary at Bet365 21 plus only must be physically located in Virginia gambling problem
