[00:01:27] So I've decided to go for something that I could answer
[00:01:36] because it's more pertinent to perhaps what's going on right now
[00:01:40] and it's a question from Tom Downs
[00:01:42] and he's asked, sorry Tom, I apologize.
[00:01:45] I don't actually know when we received this question
[00:01:47] because we have collated it all in a document
[00:01:50] and yours is the one that caught the eye
[00:01:52] because I love answering anything that's about Antonio Conte.
[00:01:55] Ciao tutti.
[00:01:56] Interested to know what the gang thing about reports of Conte
[00:02:01] to Milan in the summer
[00:02:03] and whether the signing of Terraciano is a nod to this.
[00:02:08] So Tom, I am coming to you on Sunday evening
[00:02:12] where we've already watched Milan win
[00:02:15] the Magicans Lecce 3-0.
[00:02:19] I think it was the seventh victory in a row for Milan
[00:02:26] and since the beginning of March
[00:02:28] no team has managed as many points as them in Serie A.
[00:02:32] I do love the fact that,
[00:02:34] because I always find these really weird statistics
[00:02:37] and uses it as like, look how good they are
[00:02:40] in for two months now
[00:02:42] and they haven't dropped anything,
[00:02:44] no team has liked them in Serie A.
[00:02:46] Meanwhile, about three months ago
[00:02:48] they were requesting that purely
[00:02:50] might not be the right manager for them.
[00:02:52] It does seem like somewhat the tide has been turning
[00:02:56] towards us definitely or purely.
[00:02:58] I'm going to read something to you
[00:03:00] because there's been actually a topic of conversation
[00:03:03] in English media in particularly
[00:03:05] because I wrote a piece on Simone and Zaghi
[00:03:08] and it was published on Friday
[00:03:12] and I got lots of interesting questions
[00:03:14] on my Instagram.
[00:03:16] I started it off by talking about
[00:03:18] what the media had,
[00:03:19] what Gazeta specifically had said about Simone and Zaghi
[00:03:23] after the Easter Monday loss
[00:03:25] that they had last season against,
[00:03:28] I want to say Fiorentina,
[00:03:30] and last year Gazeta had wrote after the loss
[00:03:35] on the 1st of April
[00:03:37] that it would seem almost utopian
[00:03:40] that Zaghi would keep his job
[00:03:43] unless he won the Champions League
[00:03:46] and based on the performance that would be utopia.
[00:03:49] They couldn't understand how Zaghi had suffered
[00:03:52] so many losses
[00:03:53] and that it was just abysmal to expect that
[00:03:55] from a team like Inter
[00:03:57] and how on earth was he going to keep his job.
[00:03:59] Fast forward, really not many months later
[00:04:03] and they were in the Champions League final
[00:04:05] and they've been in terrific form ever since.
[00:04:09] That has kind of started off a debate
[00:04:12] on the way that coaches are really judged by the media
[00:04:15] in Italy
[00:04:16] and how it's become this ridiculous drama all the time
[00:04:18] should we sack them, should we not.
[00:04:20] And I go back
[00:04:21] and I've spoken about this already on the pod
[00:04:23] but one thing I remember is when Antonio Conte
[00:04:27] and Inter were trucked out of the Champions League
[00:04:31] and we were discussing with them
[00:04:34] whether or not he should be sacked
[00:04:36] considering how poor they were
[00:04:38] and the champions he could have sacked absolutely
[00:04:41] and obviously after that they went on to win the title
[00:04:44] and it was always something that I reflect on
[00:04:46] and think I should never have said that
[00:04:48] I should never have said that
[00:04:50] because coaches need time to build something.
[00:04:52] And while for me
[00:04:54] I'm somebody who really rates Champions League football
[00:04:56] above everything else
[00:04:58] I think that if you keep falling out in that league
[00:05:00] then some question marks need to be asked of the coach
[00:05:03] having said all of that
[00:05:05] I would never give that advice again to anyone
[00:05:09] who would never ask for a coach to be fired
[00:05:11] unless there was a genuine
[00:05:13] signs of regression.
[00:05:15] Speaking to that, loads of people had responded to say
[00:05:18] that they remember what was written at the time
[00:05:20] and why is Italian media like this
[00:05:23] and I don't know if this is just Italian media
[00:05:25] I think some people just get a little bit
[00:05:27] reactionary to poor results
[00:05:29] but it does seem to be really ridiculous
[00:05:32] how coaches in Italy go from hero to zero so quickly all the time
[00:05:36] and I feel like it's almost like fans are writing the pieces
[00:05:39] as opposed to journalists
[00:05:42] and in much the same way
[00:05:44] I have moved from being a blogger
[00:05:46] as my career to a journalist
[00:05:49] and there's been a different process
[00:05:51] and in maturity level required as well
[00:05:53] to find myself where I am now
[00:05:55] which is why when I started crying
[00:05:57] when you went to Sloth's last week
[00:05:59] I started to question my maturity. Anyway
[00:06:01] On the topic of Conte and Milan
[00:06:04] this was written on February the 28th
[00:06:07] by Andrea Di Caro of the Gazeta
[00:06:11] and he said Piorli is on fire
[00:06:13] it was chanted in Milan's Scudetto chance to magnify him
[00:06:17] a sort of Piorli is at the top
[00:06:20] Piorli is at the maximum
[00:06:22] however, given the current situation
[00:06:24] the literal translation of Piorli is on fire
[00:06:27] seems more appropriate
[00:06:31] The coach's position looking ahead to next season
[00:06:34] has been more precarious for some time
[00:06:37] and his confirmation will probably remain uncertain
[00:06:40] until the last moment
[00:06:43] and I think that now
[00:06:46] we've got Di Caro writing again just this weekend
[00:06:49] saying Stefano Piorli deserves to remain in charge of Milan
[00:06:53] His contract expires in June 2025
[00:06:56] and rumors have linked Antonio Conte and Tiago Monta
[00:06:59] to the Rossoneri job
[00:07:02] In the most difficult moment Piorli took the team
[00:07:05] by the hand bringing it back to an excellent level of playing
[00:07:08] they have overtaken Juventus
[00:07:11] and Piorli has a year left in his contract
[00:07:14] and he deserves to lead the fantasy Milan the club wants to build
[00:07:19] That's a remarkable achievement
[00:07:22] of what Piorli has managed this season
[00:07:24] but it goes to show you how in two months
[00:07:26] this man has changed the way that he is viewed as coach
[00:07:29] and I think that what's annoying about all of this
[00:07:33] is that none of the alibis that he presented
[00:07:36] he didn't present them but have been presented on his behalf
[00:07:39] were ever taken seriously
[00:07:42] It is the strange thing in Italy because it's such a demanding country
[00:07:45] and that's perhaps why results have always arrived
[00:07:48] usually for the national team
[00:07:50] I used to growing up in London
[00:07:52] I realised there's such a difference between the way that
[00:07:55] the English support their teams to the way the Italians do
[00:07:58] and with Italy everything is always so dramatic
[00:08:01] you know, the team is always disgusting
[00:08:04] unless it wins everything
