🟡🔴 Roma Through to Europa League Quarter Final After Brighton’s Failed Fightback

Nicky Bandini was at The Amex Stadium to watch Brighton mount a fightback against Roma, but never much of a comeback (as well as some brilliant Brighton banner banter in the terraces), as Daniele De Rossi's side comfortably managed the second leg after demolishing De Zerbi's Brightonians in Rome last week in the Europa League Round of 16.

Also a wrap-up of Atalanta and Milan going through; which teams will be in today's draw for the Europa League and Conference League quarter finals; and who is Lazio's new manager?

📸 Nicky's view at the stadium.

[00:01:30] Here I am guys bringing up the rear of the last of your Serie A Chronicles correspondence to report this week on an Italian team losing in Europe. Amazing work by me in a week when on a night sorry when only one Italian team lost to find that team and be at that game, completing the trio for us after both Italian clubs playing in the Champions League this week.

[00:02:00] I was on Tuesday and Wednesday night as you've heard about in previous voice notes. Of course this is a very different context but I'm lost the leg away to Brighton, but they'd won four in the home like so was never really a night when it felt like that was in jeopardy.

[00:02:14] Really fun experience. I've lived in Brighton now for gosh, I'm not even sure if it's six years seven years. I can't do math in my head.

[00:02:23] But I had not got to go and watch any of their European games on this adventure they've been on with Roberto Deserre.

[00:02:32] It was always going to be a treat to get down there to the out stadium and just see them playing Europe even more of a treat that it was for a game against Roma.

[00:02:40] Really sort of fun experience right from the top. I was on the train to the stadium with lots of Brighton fans you expect and

[00:02:50] there was a lot of we're going to win five-neil chance. Forcelazio chance, there was chance of just like Brighton your city is blue which I guess is leaning into that same teasing support of Lazio.

[00:03:07] And I think this reflects that the fan base which certainly came into this competition without great expectations even though Brighton plays some very football is not again a team in a city that expects to be in the light of the stage.

[00:03:20] So these competitions is all new for most of these fans to get to go on these trips to places like Amsterdam, I say they have the season underarm and so there was a lot of enjoyment in it.

[00:03:32] But then you got to the ground and I have to say I'm actually before I get into this there was a brilliant banner which I missed inside the stadium.

[00:03:41] I was a little bit late getting up to my seat actually made it up there by kick off but was cutting a bit fine I meant to but there was a banner that I saw shared on social media because as lots of you would have seen in Rome there was a crude message from Roma supporters about the Queen

[00:04:00] and bedroom habits a little bit. I don't know when everyone's welcome to be fun with the Queen but maybe a little bit sexist felt by anyway the comeback from Brighton fans tonight doing a banner in Italian.

[00:04:13] I haven't got it in front of me but I think the way they worded it was Totti Adora, Lannanas Sulepizzer so Totti Adora's pineapple on pizza which I thought was a very humorous and like well aimed funny without crossing the wrong kind of line.

[00:04:29] The wrong kind of lines jab back I enjoyed it a lot and felt very proud to be a Britonian as that is where I live now. It's a city with Kachima.

[00:04:39] It was an interesting experience and to go on from that I have to say for a team four no down in the tie was a really good atmosphere in the stadium and it was absolutely full to the rafters again with those chance of we're going to win five nil you can't tell.

[00:04:54] There's a bit of joking and maybe perhaps a little bit of wishful thinking that it won't turn out to be a joke but there was certainly a through the first half it felt like a real tension, a real desire to see their team push on and and test or mind.

[00:05:07] Danny Welbeck's goal when it arrived in the 37th minute there was a minute a moment where it felt like maybe this would open things up in the tie.

[00:05:15] But on that came with a pretty clear plan to not over exert themselves and to try to just play out the time and not risk anything I think the fact that you had Debala, El Shiroawi, Paréles on the bench meant that those tools were there waiting for you but spoke to the fact that perhaps that four nil lead was perceived as a pretty comfortable one.

[00:05:39] It did feel like the first half of the game they were very much looking to just kill time and not push things I thought the referee did a pretty good job Felix is fire over showing some cars to stop from time wasting actually.

[00:05:52] But but I know we're doing a good job of just playing out the string it felt like in till well backscored that goal and just give bright and that little bit of hope.

[00:06:01] I think why would say as well, I don't know what doing a reason we're doing time you definitely felt the absence of those players up front they were looking to draw bright and on and of course it's a pretty obvious trap to try and set to a dessert to be team to invite them on and and then look for options on the counter and.

[00:06:18] Tomazo Baldanzi I know Patrick's a fan and I hope see good things from going forward but it wasn't a particularly impressive performance who my thought that he was looked for a few times to be that that outlet wasn't very successful with it.

[00:06:30] Spinazzola was the one out of everyone I felt like on the other side who was at least doing some work and there was actually should say it as well now.

[00:06:38] Now a goal that look like a perfectly good goal to me to be I see from as moon didn't particularly feel like it was one of those inevitable goals it was one of those moments when.

[00:06:48] And I had got forward and you know a goal happens rather than the inevitable by productive of the way the game is going but it was a really nice taking over head kick in one of those classic.

[00:07:00] Disallowed for high boot goals that I find very frustrating I find the high boot rule in general very frustrating so I feel like it's only applied when a defender.

[00:07:09] And a low as the head towards the boot so it's often less about how high the boot isn't and more about how low the defenders head is having said that I could see one replay on a tiny monitor in the press seats I didn't get a great second look at it and I'm giving you this voice note without having watched the highlights really like that so all my impressions just based on what I saw in the stadium.

[00:07:31] But yeah well but it's got brilliant right in the second half certainly through everything they had at.

[00:07:39] I thought they were sort of impressive to a point definitely and see if I came in had his chance there were few chances in that second half but it never felt to me like any of them were really.

[00:07:54] Brilliant chances jump all that had one as well didn't mean to me never felt like the chance any of those chances individually.

[00:08:03] Like they were going to end in a goal.
