[00:01:32] Hello and welcome to another episode of the Serie A Chronicles podcast. It's only the three of us

[00:01:38] today and by three of us I mean Nikki Bandini and I mean a risotto. Of course, I produce a Simon

[00:01:45] who's going to try really hard not to do any facial expressions to throw me off my game.

[00:01:50] I think it's a Serie A Chronicles classic, you know how like Coke had like Coke and Coke classic for

[00:01:54] us. Serie A Chronicles classic. Like a retro throwback. Yeah, a real pack of episodes.

[00:02:00] For the nostalgic among us but Patrick Kendrick has decided to already go on international break

[00:02:07] and I can't say I blame him for it, so hopefully he's resting and having a nice cup of tea

[00:02:16] down in Napoli. We're going to kick off the show by explaining that there's a letter

[00:02:22] comedrid sign which I want to punch in the face at the moment, okay, that have raved about

[00:02:28] there's home form over there as you know like one loss all season at home. This like

[00:02:34] monumental like fantastic tea when it comes to the metropolitano by the way I kept calling it

[00:02:40] one the metropolitano, it's no longer sponsored by wonder but you don't mind me as well. It just

[00:02:45] sounds right now doesn't it? It just does yeah. Anyway, at the metropolitano and guess what happened

[00:02:50] today guys they got smashed humiliated three-nil by a Barcelona side that doesn't even have a full

[00:02:57] minute field, okay? Make matters worse than they had Molina sent off and the 90th minute I mean

[00:03:05] they were just totally, totally thrashed. Oh Nikki, we obviously watched the Champions League match

[00:03:13] into unfortunately couldn't get over the line there were huge existential conversations that

[00:03:18] happened afterwards about the quality of Italian football into themselves have only managed a

[00:03:24] one-one draw against Napoli this evening. Now I did a stupid thing and I bound them to win because

[00:03:30] I thought that they would show us this wonderful like mentality that they've shared us all season

[00:03:36] in the sense that you know what we're going to put this aside and concentrate on getting this win

[00:03:40] especially because I just looked at Napoli and I thought no, awesome and right it's going to be

[00:03:44] easy but no they drew and after 10 consecutive wins Napoli drew to sorry into drew to Napoli

[00:03:54] so something's happened. I don't know what I mean there's like it's almost like amazing like

[00:04:00] mirror situation that was set up it's kind of an amazing coincidence of the schedule that you had

[00:04:04] the two Spanish clubs that knocked out the two Italian clubs played each other right because Barcelona

[00:04:08] also knocked out Napoli. So in between these two Italian clubs using to those two Spanish clubs

[00:04:14] and then they played each other and I mean I don't know maybe well maybe we should get this as

[00:04:19] well afterwards maybe like this rear value eight snap please performance because Napoli

[00:04:23] yes the score line said three one but actually a two one they were very in that gaming in

[00:04:27] Barcelona who apparently are miles better than that let's go but are they miles better? I mean

[00:04:35] I don't know what's going on this van. It's a very weirdly good right now the season I cannot really

[00:04:39] define this is for someone else I'm just reaction to that score line honestly. The big question is

[00:04:46] what we think of Italian football? Yeah so right after Inter went out it's one of those moments

[00:04:52] we almost wish we could share the Sarah Chronicles group chat with them with our listeners because

[00:04:56] there was like proper like strong emotions coming out which is I suppose it should be because

[00:05:02] I mean I was going to say Royal Italian we're not all like by blood Italian but I think we're all

[00:05:06] Italian by spirit and via our interests so we're all Italian in the way we think about football

[00:05:12] we're all passionate about it and I think there was the range of reactions from probably I would say

[00:05:18] at the most negative end of it I hope you won't be mad if saying I think producer Simon was very like

[00:05:23] faces all awful they weren't as good as we thought they were and I was probably the far end

[00:05:28] of it where I was coming in and saying listen I'm not going to re-evaluate what I think about Inter

[00:05:32] and then what I've watched in football or season on the basis of one night it's incredibly

[00:05:37] disappointing the inteply like that against Atlético and I think it was one of them

[00:05:44] absolute worst performance the whole season being blunt about it and I think in a second half

[00:05:50] I think I've not seen them look that afraid on a football pitch in a really really long time

[00:05:55] and as soon as that that equaliser went in on the night I was saying I don't think they're

[00:06:05] going to go through this and I was messaging various people including my brother sent me actually

[00:06:10] and because it was my mum's birthday that evening so we had a birthday dinner and then went to

[00:06:14] watch and I said there's not been out they're going out and I said it long before that second goal

[00:06:18] went in for for Atlético because they they were doing something I haven't seen them do in a

[00:06:22] really really long time which is retreat they were doing something that they didn't do at the start

[00:06:27] of the game at the start of the game I thought it was actually quite a sort of messy open game

[00:06:31] and not necessarily the Dimaaco score was with the run of play but it certainly was at a point

[00:06:36] in the game where both teams were what we're trying to go forward that late bit of the game when you

[00:06:42] see in Zaggy lecture suspension just bring on another centre back another centre back take off

[00:06:48] is attacking wing backs you've taken off dumperies take from Dimaaco that's not who Inter are I know

[00:06:53] they've had all these clean sheets I know we talk about their defending but they have been

[00:06:56] front for the team and I felt watching it like they were a team that just lost their nerve now we

[00:07:02] can go to individual bits on top of that obviously Marcus Tiram has a great chance of score any fluff

[00:07:08] set but I also have a chance of score any fluff set I know everyone's going to absolutely pummel

[00:07:15] out how to and I've pummeled out how to a bit frankly for all for that penalty was and I think

[00:07:21] it's completely like well it's a conversation I had on the on the con just a podcast so without

[00:07:26] wanting to just repeat myself the problem that I think I I feel with La Taro is it's not that he's

[00:07:33] a bad player it's because I think he's a genuine nobody at play and I think even within this game you

[00:07:37] can look at those two chances I just mentioned Tiram and Barraela and say look he assisted both of

[00:07:41] those right he was still doing good things in this game but I think when you're talking about strike

[00:07:45] as when you're going to centre forwards there are some centre forwards when the big game is in the line

[00:07:50] who are demanding the football and they want it for themselves I almost feel like La Taro doesn't

[00:07:54] want the penalty of the ball for himself when that game is on the line and that's why he's setting

[00:07:57] other people up instead of trying to score himself and that's why he's taking the fifth penalty

[00:08:01] because he might get away with not even taking that penalty at number five I think that's what is

[00:08:06] disappointing about La Taro on that occasion it's been hard on you the guy taking this on yourself

[00:08:13] and insisting it's me Nicky when is it during that game that you said that is is it as soon as

[00:08:18] the equaliser went in that you realised that you don't think they want no if you refer to it

[00:08:23] to him making other substitutions about the centre back so when is it that you saw in terms of what

[00:08:27] they're not going to win this I think it was I couldn't give you a specific moment but I

[00:08:31] said it to my brother I reckon some are about 15 20 minutes into our second half because

[00:08:36] Inter were only going backwards they were only moving backwards they weren't they'd becoming

[00:08:41] and the thing is they did great chances after that I appreciate that I said that they had

[00:08:44] chance afterwards but the the motion was all retreating into themselves and I didn't believe

[00:08:50] they'd get away with it because Atlético might not be a great team this season they've got all

[00:08:54] sorts of flaws but Antoine Griezmann's a great player and they have other players in that attack

[00:08:59] that are going to get at you if you just invite them on you have to play them on the front foot

[00:09:03] because that's your football and because they're too good to play on the back foot and I think that

[00:09:08] that retreat from Insagi was just the first time in such a long time that I felt like he

[00:09:13] let go of the initiative in a game I think that was do you think he betrayed the identity that he

[00:09:18] has created do you think that in some way yeah and that's why you you I think you lost the

[00:09:22] and I think the whole team was and maybe it's not just him I'm not trying to say it's just him

[00:09:26] because I've already just said maybe La Taro lost his nerve maybe Marcus Tiram who we've

[00:09:30] signed his praise for season lost his nerve and I sort of forgive him more because you know what he's

[00:09:35] not and of all of them the one who's been here and done it before but he did lose his nerve on that

[00:09:41] shot and my brother actually said to me again we're watching he said do you think that's because

[00:09:46] it's all blacking gold and maybe it is right maybe you Tiram thinks that's all black I can't

[00:09:50] do a normal shot I have to top of the net shot you know I have to sing special um but I think

[00:09:56] it's not like you did sorry you see it's like at Yann Somer and remember PTSD and the fact that

[00:10:04] we didn't qualify to the World Cup because of how good Yann Somer is on penalty yeah whereas listening

[00:10:09] to the commentary which was really hard because I'm having to work on one

[00:10:13] radio ship but also listening to TV which are saying things like while I'm trying to watch the game

[00:10:20] of black who on earth can get passed of black and I'm thinking oh gosh who's the better goalkeeper you

[00:10:26] know and I'm sort of getting I feel like I'm being like we're being disrespected as like Italian

[00:10:32] representatives by them only talking about oblac and I'm trying to mention how good Yann Somer is

[00:10:38] but the only thing that kept creeping in my mind is I don't care how good any of the goalkeepers are

[00:10:42] I don't trust them I don't trust enter and taking the penalties I don't trust any setty out team

[00:10:47] that would have stopped job this is not just an interthing if it was now putting out to win on

[00:10:50] penalties if it was me land who had to win on penalties if it was the event is to win about all

[00:10:54] of them I would have been really scared of Fiorentina it's we have been so awful at penalty

[00:11:00] as this season you know whether whether it's Fiorentina missing like five whether it's it's Patrick

[00:11:05] Kendrick's you know like um statistic of eight out of 22 penalties missed by by

[00:11:12] Laudato Martinez it just it's awesome and and then the many he's it just made me very nervous

[00:12:47] necessary void were prohibited by law 18 plus terms and conditions apply see website for details

[00:12:52] I guess the existential question in all of this is that you niki and specific were very upset

[00:12:57] by the fact that people were trashing nilink because of this loss and you were saying we haven't gone

[00:13:02] from a team that was you know one to you know Calcho is back last year because we have three representatives

[00:13:07] in the quarterfinals and two in the semis to now being a terrible league and that this doesn't say

[00:13:13] all of the things that we we want it to say about inter that this isn't a great league and actually

[00:13:18] there are any of their because we're rubbish I mean I think I mean I think it's funny because

[00:13:24] in my opinion and in my opinion is not plucked from the air I watch this team a lot I think this

[00:13:31] inter team is better than last year's inter team and last year they went to the finals so that just

[00:13:35] reminds you that there are things that happen in knockout football that aren't necessarily

[00:13:41] just what should happen right but I think that there's counter points you could make even to me saying

[00:13:47] that which is that maybe this team has played better football this season but actually maybe when

[00:13:53] push comes to shove in European competition just being able to go yeah but Laotaro Jekko Lukaku is

[00:14:00] a deeper roster than Laotaro Turam and then Alexis Sanchez you know Sanchez wasn't good after he

[00:14:08] came on he put himself about but he wasn't good and and in the first leg I'm out of it she did

[00:14:12] score the goal but you also missed a bunch it should have been out of sight in this tie that's

[00:14:17] the thing which I think people forget in this sort of prisoner of the moment way is like oh they

[00:14:21] weren't really in a way to Atlético where's this team that you've been telling us is capable

[00:14:25] of playing as Manchester City well they played like that team in the first like they didn't

[00:14:31] in the second leg and perhaps the reality is team my summary in between there and perhaps

[00:14:37] there are ways in which this team wasn't ready to do it again but I think that the reflection

[00:14:45] that oh they lost when I played to go team that isn't that good does not make me say oh I've been

[00:14:51] watching this team since September and I'm going to pretend I didn't see any of that I'm going

[00:14:55] to make my entire judgment on one night because I think that's that's ridiculous yeah people

[00:15:01] love doing that I mean I did it about Arsenal right and but this but this is like the thing it's

[00:15:06] actually there's the comparison I drew on on Twitter and then everyone's said well they are doing

[00:15:10] that anyway because I said would Arsenal have suddenly been a much worse team if they lost that

[00:15:14] shooter supporter than they were for winning it would it suddenly be because they went out of that

[00:15:20] round they were terrible whereas if they could now still win the competition right they could

[00:15:23] still possible for Arsenal's going to competition in it and that's the fine margins of a penalty

[00:15:27] shooter now I think it's not a lottery I think you can say Atlético took much better penalties

[00:15:34] in the inter they deserve to win that shooter but but I think it's also when you're talking about

[00:15:40] margins that fine to sort of make these sweeping judgments sometimes can be of it

[00:15:44] for me it's a bit much but I also understand it and I think it does whether I say that or not

[00:15:50] it does have a negative impact for Italian football that this team that is going to run away with

[00:15:55] the league couldn't go to the quarterfinal that's a bad look for Italian football for sure

[00:16:01] and that's despite the fact that because of the Europa League successes and Europa conference

[00:16:05] successes Italy are going to be one of the top two almost certainly now I should shouldn't

[00:16:11] take a fate but they really are in a very very strong position in terms of getting their fifth

[00:16:14] champions east but okay I sort of do want to chime in because I have my own thoughts on all of this

[00:16:19] but before I should talk to my question anymore no I know this is my question so in the scheme of

[00:16:28] things yeah where do you still like do you where do you still see Inter amongst Europe like does

[00:16:34] this make you reassessed their value or do you think it's about in the office I think it's a bad

[00:16:39] thing I really do and maybe I'm wrong like I've been one before but I just want to talk about this

[00:16:44] and I will really shut up in a second but like the other teams this quarterfinals me there

[00:16:48] do I think there was some pressure Dortmund who didn't like better than me land to me no because

[00:16:51] I didn't think brisht Dortmund better than me land they did finish ahead of them in the group though

[00:16:54] so again what am I what am I saying do I think that they are do you think that maybe they had

[00:17:00] like an easy run in last year I'm just these are just questions in comparison to this here where

[00:17:04] they now have to face bigger teams you know it's a fair question to say our Inter being not pushed

[00:17:10] hard enough in Serie A and they used to playing worse teams and now they play better teams

[00:17:14] and it makes them look worse that's totally fair and look Inter shouldn't have been playing

[00:17:18] out let it go because they were the ones who didn't win their group and they didn't win their group

[00:17:22] because they didn't beat the sausage it out here they should have beaten again both times but

[00:17:26] they didn't and because you think Inter could have beaten PSG if they had finished

[00:17:32] well I mean it's a different jaw the jaw doesn't necessarily get the same way does it

[00:17:36] but you say it out me you know but this I think this is actually maybe this is the crux of it

[00:17:40] being totally truthful I'm here trying to make the argument about what Inter are

[00:17:43] but is the crux of it not just there aren't that many of these European teams that

[00:17:47] that you think are that convincingly good because PSG were terrible at times in the group stage

[00:17:52] they were they were terrible in some of those games which raised me nicely to my points

[00:17:56] which is my my point is I guess in all of this is that I think that this is actually the game

[00:18:00] that sort of opened my eyes a little bit to some of the way that I judge European for I'm quite

[00:18:04] a harsh in in the way that I try and should football in general and I don't make and I don't

[00:18:09] give excuses to teams and I always feel like you know the loser deserves to be a loser and the

[00:18:13] winner deserves to be a winner but actually something happened on this occasion and which I was

[00:18:17] like hmm I've never even thought about this not even when my team Juventus were losing finals

[00:18:21] at the time you see Juventus even when they would win a double and it wasn't the Champions League as

[00:18:27] well which wasn't a trouble there was just constant like oh well I think this terrible or the

[00:18:31] team is terrible or whatever it is but in fact what it is is that in this in this competition

[00:18:37] it's not necessarily you playing really well it is actually really necessary to have players

[00:18:42] that can manage and provide a moment to bring in yes because that's the absolute difference maker

[00:18:48] between all these sides at the end of the day when you have the ability to bring on a garrith

[00:18:52] fail of the bench or you have the ability to rely entirely on in bappé to disguise the

[00:18:58] terribleness that is your style of football or the lack of the all the weaknesses in your midfield

[00:19:03] like PSG have if you look at for example the last team the tannin team we played at

[00:19:08] let's go mid-trick it was Ronaldo otherwise there would be no way that Juventus would have managed

[00:19:12] to hit a let's go mid-trick and I think on this occasion what we saw was a really brilliant team

[00:19:17] in the same way that we saw RB Leipzig be a really brilliant team against Real Madrid a much better

[00:19:22] team a better organized team that played a better style of football except the differences that

[00:19:27] Madrid have an issue to do they have players that can make a difference on the big level

[00:19:31] and this goes down to the point where I've really started to realize that money is an issue

[00:19:36] because you can create as much as you want to create but if you don't have these style players when

[00:19:40] everything is a bargain basement and you want to build from use it's really can't really afford to

[00:19:45] build on use because sometimes we need the all these which are Gerud and Jaco who make a difference

[00:19:49] unfortunately and youngsters can't always do that unless you're lucky enough to have bought a

[00:19:54] youngster like Vinny Jr right so because that's what I've seen as being the difference maker

[00:20:00] I used to genuinely believe whoever plays better wins better but

[00:20:05] this is that the horrible the most horrible tweet I saw after that after that round of games was

[00:20:12] oh I think it was sporting intel I'm sorry if it wasn't someone else but they said as expected

[00:20:18] the richer team passed in all eight ties and that's the blunt truth even at let it go to have a

[00:20:24] higher wage build than it than in there that is that is the blunt truth the higher wage build one eight

[00:20:27] ties out of eight it's a miserable truth but it is the truth yes because when you get the moment

[00:20:33] when you needed to score that goal where was Marcus tram even barrella who is somebody who won the

[00:20:38] euro you know if they're just they don't have the necessary level of experience I mean

[00:20:42] but you can't allow Taro for me is the one who's supposed to stand up this is where he's supposed

[00:20:46] to be the wild class player and this is where I go back to the fact that if anything like as

[00:20:51] I know this is even I was going back through the the player ratings that

[00:20:55] gazette had of last season and their journey in the wild in the in the champions league and so many

[00:21:01] of them channel ugly wasn't up to par to what prosovich managed I know this like because channel

[00:21:06] ugly has been brilliant but sometimes the difference between a brilliant performance is not

[00:21:11] consistency in the league but it is being able to be clutched in the big moments and it is in

[00:21:15] these big moments that unfortunately laughed out of wanting this hasn't been able to hit the highs

[00:21:21] that we need to see and I think that listen this is the only score is as far I mean like specifically

[00:21:28] goal scorers you touched know with them bap I mean what I remember Sanjama like it just can't it's

[00:21:34] the one that my brain goes back to is there the home giving its new castle where they were losing

[00:21:38] into the 97th minute and they had not been good but then in bap I get penalty 97th and he scores it

[00:21:42] and you can't start upset about it but but he scores and steps up I feel like watching a buy-am

[00:21:50] unit there's not that consistent brilliance to them but there's Harry Kane and that resolves

[00:21:55] about for them watching bars loner against Napoli they've really were so bad defensively at times

[00:22:02] so when Napoli so it was a ridiculously poor game I thought in terms of again Champions League

[00:22:07] giants in what you expect offensively but they have left and dovescape front and he's scored in both

[00:22:12] legs these things make a difference yeah these things decide ties this is what it is so this team

[00:22:19] can be so well done and I don't and I honestly I'm one of those people which feels like

[00:22:23] he is being in zaggy was excessively I think I know that we're running too long on this conversation

[00:22:29] but I think everyone's terrible by the way and I don't know we do

[00:22:34] they're sorry to everybody's like Nikki's just things everyone's terrible she's also used

[00:22:38] her bad word today but we'll talk about that a bit later and I was just going to say that I do

[00:22:44] I do feel like what people don't recognize as well is that this takes nothing away from

[00:22:48] in zaggy and I was actually really angry with a lot of the criticism that he received because

[00:22:51] they were like oh you went back and I'm not here to defund his mistake yes he bought on a ton

[00:22:55] of center back yes he made a mistake in getting too scared in going too deep but again I probably

[00:23:00] would have made the same mistake when I can look at my defense and think that they've kept 24

[00:23:04] clean sheets of 38 games and that they have managed to concede only 13 goals league girls I can make

[00:23:10] that mistake I can trust my defense whether or not you should have of course you should know better

[00:23:15] Carla and Chalote makes it least one mistake a champion's a massive one I'm be honest with you guys

[00:23:20] Manchester City has built some of the most beautiful teams in in in champion z football they have lost

[00:23:25] to the likes of moniker never pulled to and how many times it kept places mine before he got it like

[00:23:31] precisely I mean he goes trash three times in a row when he was head of buy and he actually had

[00:23:36] superstars which is why I'm not entirely sure about him as being a great guy I'm doing this isn't

[00:23:41] about pep but I'm saying that in zaggy you know when I'm Chalote makes a mistake Vinny can bail him out

[00:23:46] and unfortunately for his zaggy he didn't have a lot of time to put it on this occasion who bailed

[00:23:51] and Marcus Ram and Barrella who missed all the chances if they had just gotten one of those

[00:23:55] counter tanks it would have been over lucky land casino asking people what's the weirdest place you've

[00:24:01] gotten lucky lucky in line at the deli I guess I'd my dentist office more than once actually do I

[00:24:07] have to say yes you do in the car before my kids pta meeting really yes excuse me what's the

[00:24:14] weirdest place you've gotten lucky I never win and tell well there you have it you could get lucky

[00:24:19] anywhere playing at luckyland slots dot com play for free right now are you feeling lucky no

[00:24:24] pretty necessary we're pretty good by law 18 plus terms and conditions apply see what's every details

[00:24:28] so I don't think it's right to blame them I think it's fair to say that sometimes these

[00:24:32] types of teams do need a veteran just in the same way that I look at Milan and one of my

[00:24:36] my biggest criticisms I love layout but is he the guy I want to depend on I love love Taro is he

[00:24:40] the guy I want to depend on no unfortunately it's still jiru when it comes to Milan and it's still

[00:24:45] would have been jacko if it had come to enter but unfortunately a loss like that can be a big one

[00:24:49] and I'm sure that they will look to do that apparently they've now been linked to Taro immobile so

[00:24:56] I actually low key like that one if they can do and no I do no I do I do and I'll tell you why

[00:25:02] two reasons one of which is it's anxiety in immobile and immobile is not always best things for

[00:25:07] anxiety that's just a fast trip the other thing is Taro immobile you can criticize him plenty and you

[00:25:13] should for his international record his European record while playing for Italian clubs is good he

[00:25:20] actually has a good goals to games record playing for Italian clubs in Europe and the final thought

[00:25:26] here is just Marco and Outavic or Chidoli immobile it's not a question to me when you're bringing one

[00:25:31] of those two off the bench I'd rather see a mobile coming on yeah you're right actually I can't

[00:25:37] think of any I'm just I'm just wondering if Levin doska is looking to leave anytime soon okay

[00:25:44] but you know either way they drew one one to Napoli which sets us up for another exciting title

[00:25:50] race could Milan do it I suppose this sort of to bring the two things together it was interesting

[00:25:57] to see the Corva Nord were like waiting outside San Ciro with a banner saying Pieri D'Voi proud of

[00:26:02] you like they were fireworks set off there was this real sort of like I think deliberate decision by the

[00:26:07] inter fans or at least the altruists say yes obviously disappointing result but we're still going

[00:26:11] on with the league we're still getting that second that's the lab before Milana let's make

[00:26:15] them feel good about themselves when they come back oh Nicky you know I have a friend of mine who

[00:26:18] I said well no he doesn't work at Milan anymore but you know I think which one I'm talking about

[00:26:23] but he sent me a message with the particular banner saying this is the difference between

[00:26:28] it's Runa'la Milan who of course last season we're calling the players over and killing them after

[00:26:37] the after the end but isn't that interesting I mean it's like what do you prefer like as in

[00:26:42] to all my premier league friends they love that right they love like the banner that says we're

[00:26:47] proud of you they love you know these supportive fans and then people like Milan fans

[00:26:53] red fans who like also used their heating on their dims unless they win everything then is that a

[00:26:59] con is that a way of sort of signifying that we're okay with with I don't know is it a failed season

[00:27:05] if they well they've been just quite a title we have this conversation last time and I know that

[00:27:10] Patrick and you both disagree with me but like I think you can say it's it is really disappointing

[00:27:16] about the last 16 I think that's completely fair say I think inter should without question

[00:27:22] I've had the quarterfinals a minimum target this season because they're good enough to be in

[00:27:25] in that last part and I remember years ago talk to Gigi Bufon like when you went to the

[00:27:29] still on top of the world and he said with the Champions League it's an ongoing competition

[00:27:34] and you can't say oh yes we're going to win this season but quarterfinals you get to the quarterfinals

[00:27:38] and you see what happens and I think that's um that's exactly where the bar should have been set for

[00:27:42] in territ you have to at least get to last date and then you see what happens and they didn't do

[00:27:46] that so that's a failure but if you get the second star you win the league and you do it with

[00:27:52] potentially a lot of points I don't know you can call that a failed season for them I think that's

[00:27:57] still a meaningful success isn't that what we're worried about in Italy is that there isn't any

[00:28:02] level of competition that this is appalling and this is potentially why they're able to open

[00:28:06] such a huge gap whereas like if we're trying to create magnificent teams and they need to be facing

[00:28:13] actual challenges and I'm not entirely sure anymore than into our I mean the closest

[00:28:17] challenges you've been to have completely collapsed we are going to talk about them next because

[00:28:21] they have just become a hideous mess Milan have been so topsy and territ and you know what I don't expect

[00:28:26] more of Milan they have ten-year rivals they're allowed to have a year of transition and they're

[00:28:30] amazing to be at 62 points already but I think there is a legitimate question and I'm somebody who

[00:28:36] hates this question but there is a legitimate question about we are so good at building teams but

[00:28:41] are we good at building teams that can actually win competitions anymore or is money have become a huge

[00:28:46] problem now we just don't have the money to buy the level of players that can change these things

[00:28:52] money is a huge problem but they were in the final last year that's the big of a hedge king

[00:28:55] I'm going to they were in the final last year I don't know I think that

[00:28:59] but so did you vent and none of the wanted yeah because again the difference is that you're

[00:29:04] up against a broiner and you've got mecheterian there's a difference you know that's true in the

[00:29:09] last Italian team to win it and you've had to know when they had like crows and moderish and

[00:29:15] it's like these teams will keep reaching the finals about how many of them will win it against

[00:29:19] at the end of the day the teams with the better players always win even when Liverpool which is a

[00:29:23] magnificent team is up against Real Madrid they lose it's the team where the most

[00:29:28] better individual stands to win these competitions and this is what worries me about Italian football

[00:29:33] it's it's really hard it's really hard to buy the money it's really hard to break that pattern

[00:29:38] and I think the worry for all of European football frankly is are we entering into that era with

[00:29:44] even what even Real Madrid are going to startle to keep up with Manchester City spending we you know

[00:29:48] that's a question for all of Europe I am slightly wary that for Jesus I'm not going to keep talking

[00:29:56] for everyone in the store for yeah we should we should move on to yeah and they can simply

[00:30:01] be on the game of intern athlete it wasn't much of a story you know this should have been a great

[00:30:06] game for the champions elect against the previous champions who also run away with the last season

[00:30:11] it was on our draw in terror thought we're slightly the better team they gave way to go to one

[00:30:15] his at the end and to me it just like a game between two teams that are knackered from

[00:30:19] the Europe I think they're pretty impressed knackered I think emotionally drained from having

[00:30:23] gone out of the championship I think honestly but if people are wondering why we didn't talk

[00:30:28] more about that game because it wasn't that meaning after the championship you just felt like

[00:30:34] it was both teams coming home and and crashing a bit back into but it is a bit disappointing for

[00:30:40] now Polly who are seventh on 45 points because they could have really reused the points another

[00:30:47] team that could really use some points as eventers who lost who drew to Genoa Nell Mill

[00:30:53] it was one of those matches that makes you want to rip your hair out I think at this point all

[00:30:59] the fans have nearly all the fans have turned against Illegory and this is the first time in my life

[00:31:05] I think I've heard Nicky's you could say that after hearing okay Nicky I'm going to leave it to you

[00:31:11] but I mean Illegory had a very touchy and aggravated almost interview with Sky and he seemed a lot of

[00:31:20] people were very disturbed by his what by his behavior Nicky yeah I mean he was um tell him what they called

[00:31:28] him well who called him I use your words that I'm not going to repeat I thought he behaved in a really

[00:31:40] oh I can't think the light way of describing his behavior unbecoming way

[00:31:47] in his interview with Jan Frank or Deuteno on Sky you know Deuteno was asking him what are ultimately

[00:31:57] fairly reasonable questions to ask you only picked up what is it seven points from the last eight

[00:32:02] games event this has been a pretty incredible collapse from having been right on Inter's heels

[00:32:08] to what drawing with Emily losing to Adinae as they're drawing with Verona but losing to

[00:32:13] Napoli drawing with Adinae drawing with Genoa Nell the only women that whole run against

[00:32:17] Flosie Nell Nell and Illegory rather than addressing the question just came back at him with

[00:32:24] this series of Snyder remarks oh do you know how to be a manager well I don't know how to be a

[00:32:29] journalist so you know basically how dare you ask me about what a manager does because you're a

[00:32:34] journalist you don't know what a manager does and then you're saying oh well you know yes we

[00:32:43] we're trying to work certainly I make some mistakes but um he'd been asked about the how do you

[00:32:48] go from doing well to seven point eight games and he goes well I could say the same for your question

[00:32:53] if you give me a more intelligent question I will reply and even then Teotino who's in the

[00:32:57] the studio sort of tries to be like laughing it off and lie hard about it going oh no I don't have

[00:33:03] any more intelligent questions that was the limit of my intelligence and still Illegory sort of comes

[00:33:10] after him and and and gives it well that I'm sorry you know I'm a manager who works for

[00:33:16] the eventist and when the host comes in saying oh we just trying to understand he cuts

[00:33:21] so rough and says you don't need to try to understand you need to ask questions different questions

[00:33:25] what do you understand I'm the one who coached the team it was really like childish from Illegory

[00:33:30] in terms of like not engaging in an adult way with with the questions if you wanted to answer

[00:33:37] them there was a way to say that that wasn't attacking a journalist professional so I think

[00:33:42] I think it was really interesting is that I had watched Conte on the sidelines and you know he always

[00:33:47] used to like he yelled at Capella do you remember who criticized him at the time and I just remember

[00:33:52] I thought Illegory coming on I was very against the idea of Illegory coming to events but when he

[00:33:56] came I thought that he was so a little bit like Daniela Doros after Jose Mourinho was like a

[00:34:00] breath of fresh air he never complained about the referees he was always cheerful to use a pond of his

[00:34:07] in the sidelines but it's interesting to see how he is now like losing his mind a little bit

[00:34:11] and how you know being actually like questioned at a club that isn't doing well and I

[00:34:18] how it's starting to throw his behavior from one that was once upon a time who deflected and was

[00:34:23] a man of the people and like when he came into sky last what two years ago when he wasn't working

[00:34:28] at Juventus everyone was like oh wow we've got the professor bag the great Illegory do you remember

[00:34:33] when he was sort of like a dored and now you're seeing the two bentos seems sort of collapse

[00:34:39] obviously the fans feel like this is all entirely his fault I am somebody who still refuses to

[00:34:44] agree to that but I will do it she think about this interview I mean I yeah do you know am I being

[00:34:51] afraid it's a shame it's a shame that he is starting to behave like that to me I would have

[00:34:55] expected better from him because this is not like him and it seems like it has read and then when

[00:35:00] they asked him about I mean I read one thing in which because I read the transcript rather than

[00:35:04] watch anything one thing he did say was also when they asked about the fact that you went into

[00:35:08] retreat like you should be sort of expecting better he goes I'm not good I mean it's one day is

[00:35:12] not like we're all over some gonna be in this which sort of made me laugh because it's true and it

[00:35:16] is one day at the end of the day the whole you're supposed to be the person that absorbs and

[00:35:22] the fact of the matter is that when you're having players being sent off when the team looks so scared

[00:35:27] and so I don't believe he's lost the dressing room but I do believe he needs to calm them down

[00:35:33] there's something going on there and he needs to take responsibility to kill that.

[00:35:36] And I think that's almost the bigger takeaway from that interview because in the end like what I

[00:35:39] will say having criticised him I think all of us have bad days at the office all of us is our

[00:35:44] temper and I'm certain that when you're having a bad time at work having people stick your camera

[00:35:48] stick the cameras in your face and ask questions about why are doing such a bad job is not fun often

[00:35:55] and I think that in the end I've said my sort of critical critical piece it doesn't make me

[00:36:02] in the same way as interlosing to athletic it doesn't make me throw away everything I know about

[00:36:05] inter that doesn't make me change everything I've thought about a legrian in one instant but I do

[00:36:10] think it suggests to me that he's not got a grip on the situation so I think if he has a grip

[00:36:16] on the situation he doesn't snap like that and I think you've or at least he feels like he hasn't

[00:36:20] got a grip on the situation because I think if he feels in a more confident place he will respond

[00:36:24] like that. Yeah this is what I'm saying he definitely doesn't feel that supported anymore.

[00:36:29] Yeah because you wouldn't be like one of the reasons why he was always happy before at eventers

[00:36:33] was that you know while they were doing well and he always had paradesci and marathon inside all

[00:36:38] of a sudden he's you know people are being he's asked again about his future and then

[00:36:42] Italy the fans have turned against him other than the ultras he's been hearing that for a long time

[00:36:48] and for somebody who's always talking about results you know like Hendrick like Patrick said last week

[00:36:52] not having that anymore not having the results and the bad play in general is proving to be a problem

[00:36:58] so he's obviously not feeling safe in his job at the moment. Elkhan coming last week to me was a

[00:37:03] big sign of support but it's obviously not enough of his his way that he's behaving so I think if

[00:37:08] anything this should tell you about what's going to happen in the summer if this is the way that

[00:37:12] he's behaving right now but do you think there's any any fear of them dropping out as a top four?

[00:37:20] What's the gap now the gap is now eight points to Roma in fifth base Roma are certainly winning a lot

[00:37:27] of games so I think it's no longer unthinkable of course need to remind everyone that fifth may

[00:37:33] well be good enough for a Champions League spot still but at a lunch are four points behind Roma

[00:37:38] and they have a game in hand so it's not inconceivable in 10 games it shouldn't happen because yeah

[00:37:44] eight points in 10 games it really shouldn't happen but the results are so are so bad that at some

[00:37:51] point it has to change or you are in trouble and the next games are not particularly forgiving it's

[00:37:57] lads your way you know league lads your home in the cup and then Fiorentina at home and of course

[00:38:02] Fiorentina always come heated to play a Juventus and then it's Torino away which of course

[00:38:08] the Derby there's been very very one-sided for almost all of its additions for many years but

[00:38:13] it's still a Derby so they certainly do need to respond at some point. Then there's also like

[00:38:20] there's Roma away there's Follonia away there's still Milan Roma away and I'm your way on the schedule

[00:38:28] yeah so I mean there's you know there's they should be able to gather some points but they need to

[00:38:33] start building momentum right now and if Lava turns out they don't have many it's going to be a

[00:38:36] really tough for them going forward yeah because that's right. Just like from Susension and then

[00:38:40] got a red card as well like you said yes um so he acted very passionately because he got a yellow card

[00:38:47] for talking too much and then continued to talk so it goes to show you the level of frustration

[00:38:52] that he exists right now in the dressing room um so that is where Juventus find themselves right

[00:38:58] now on 59 points um moving on Atelanta against Fiorentina was postponed um director gerberon got

[00:39:08] taken away and he's in hospital Fiorentina actually did provide an update and said that his state

[00:39:13] that his situation is critical but stable because of the fact that what we understand is that

[00:39:21] Fiorentina immediately has a club requested that the game be delayed um a lot of the players have

[00:39:26] rushed to the hospital to be with their um director um i think that we're not here to debate whether

[00:39:35] or not it's it i'll be honest with you guys when i when i first heard the situation i didn't think

[00:39:40] that that would immediately result in the delay of the um or a testament of the game um

[00:39:47] Nikki it's not something that we just a very it's a very unusual situation i was saying i can't

[00:39:53] remember a time when a football game was postponed because of an illness of a sporting

[00:39:57] director and he's a the uh general director is his official title gerberon but he's very much

[00:40:02] he is very much the the sort of hands-on presence of ownership he's the one who's there um

[00:40:08] making things happen a lot of the time so he has a very present figure there but i i i don't have any

[00:40:15] any uh memory of that of a a game being uh postponed when uh because of the illness of a director

[00:40:22] before which i think might take away from that is it's obviously something very serious um the club

[00:40:27] as you said me never since come out and and says nothing about it by the time people listen to this

[00:40:31] there may be more news and but yeah best um all our stiff and thoughts and uh well wishes

[00:40:39] with joe and his family and i hope he comes through it and and is in great shape on the other side

[00:40:45] sooner and as soon as can be i guess yeah which it's it's absolutely a horrible thing to happen

[00:40:51] especially after the anniversary of la vida story passing so it's uh tender time for fioran t9

[00:40:58] we're actually really looking forward to seeing how they will play against atelanta but um

[00:41:03] that will be a match that will be played at a later time uh lacio and marzo cello um who are still

[00:41:10] awaiting ego to did to come and to take over but they managed to finally grab a win after four losses

[00:41:18] in a row and all competition with marzo cello leaving they managed to grab a win against fros uinoane um

[00:41:25] it was interesting about how the team actually celebrated with the caretaker with the caretaking coach

[00:41:32] uh would you caretaker? Would you call that caretaker?

[00:41:35] caretaker? caretaker? caretaker? caretaker?

[00:41:38] uh sorry in my head there's never mind i always cut i always link that word to something bad so i

[00:41:44] try not to use it but anyway um and anyway and he explained uh the caretaker that marzo

[00:41:52] isari had left it because we had spoken about this actually last week on the pod

[00:41:56] had left it to try to send a jolt to the team um which i thought was interesting i don't know if

[00:42:02] that's that jolt is going to remain or what lacio is going to do going forward but a good win

[00:42:09] a much needed win um what about me land there managed to get into second place are you impressed

[00:42:15] with that performance against ruruna lay out come on nick you do you have something to say about the

[00:42:20] fact that he just this is so many so many great chances for goal sometimes yeah i was i mean

[00:42:26] this is one of those games that um they complicated for themselves they were tuned like me land and

[00:42:31] and then uh let fell on her back into the game with the goffin ushane but um they were

[00:42:36] they were good value for the win without being overwhelming the impressive i do think watching both

[00:42:42] me land and roma this weekend both of them have that hint of um the Thursday nights about them

[00:42:47] where you just think this team is is playing those Thursday night games coming back and and showing

[00:42:51] the leginess of it um i i think that was i factor but um some your chick wasi getting his first

[00:42:59] city i goal off the bench um they have had lots of uh of productivity um off the bench this season

[00:43:09] me land and that's one of their successes is building that deeper that deeper set of options going

[00:43:14] forward um a win is a win for me land they're not going to catch in terror at the top of the table

[00:43:18] unless something extraordinary happens in these last nine games but they are certainly looking

[00:43:23] the most confident after in terms of heading towards that guaranteed championship spot

[00:43:30] i thought your quesit talked about things really nicely in his um post match interview in which you

[00:43:35] talked about like he completely understands that prolific is the man it's so interesting because when

[00:43:40] they both arrived to the club i really thought that he would be the guy i mean there was so much money

[00:43:43] spending he i thought he was going to be the guy that we watched and really happy for him that he

[00:43:47] got his goal today but um prolific has really been really astonishingly good you know

[00:43:54] yeah i mean just to say as well because we haven't mentioned it on here i mean since we last showed

[00:43:59] up um me land roma in the champ in the europe league i mean that'll be a fun quarter final guaranteed

[00:44:04] a europe league semi finalist at least mentally so looking forward to that tie i was really

[00:44:09] upset because i thought it's gonna be yeah did you not feel like we got we got denied to

[00:44:18] i i i feel like we got denied because i just thought that both rumour would win whoever they were

[00:44:22] gonna face unless it was Liverpool and and i and i thought that milan would win whoever they were

[00:44:27] gonna face to to be honest with you i was really hopeful of of having them in the semis

[00:44:34] it's definitely pairing together to two teams that could have gone further if they hadn't

[00:44:39] but it's also guarantees semi finalist against most likely levy kusen so could be a fun semi final

[00:44:46] yeah absolutely well levy kusen had a great game against carabag anyway um living only

[00:44:52] better make your meal if i didn't make that's already for an topic what a topic it is

[00:44:59] peligrini wow this player is just on form with roamer managed to get a one-year victory over

[00:45:04] saswolo that roamer train continues to move forward under daniel edorosi um peligrini has got what now

[00:45:11] how many goals six goals and in the three assists and their deen matches on to deroosi it's just

[00:45:16] incredible to turn around in his performance and i thought it was really interesting when he talked

[00:45:20] about the fact that he just feels like he can follow his thoughts and and allowed creativity and

[00:45:25] allowed to chase places that this is perfect for him and it just got me thinking about the kinds of

[00:45:29] coaches that you have you have the ones like gesterini which are set on a standard system and they

[00:45:34] tell you how to move it's just clearly instructions a little bit like enternier con tape and then you

[00:45:39] have the coaches who try to leave it up to the player to find themselves um in within within a scheme

[00:45:46] uh which is obviously where daniel edorosi fits in and it seems to be working magnificently for

[00:45:50] for those players who do have a not and a more advanced for pulling iq or it played for a little bit

[00:45:56] longer like peligrini has who has experience to do that um i wanted to go into a whole discussion about

[00:46:02] this but you don't have the time to go into all of this run way longer than we went to you tonight

[00:46:07] already have me we was like it's too quick one tonight because it's different on schedules but

[00:46:11] recording on sunday night we know we record on monday so um but um i'm a certain we'll have more

[00:46:16] chances to talk about peligrini he was another another important win for our mate i think they

[00:46:20] definitely by the end of this game that out on their feet but getting the three points is not

[00:46:25] mattered absolutely and uh they're getting closer and closer to trying to get a top four

[00:46:31] place um obviously like we said top five might just be enough in other news let's say get to

[00:46:36] winning ways under new coach gottie or one nil with the christophage coming of coming through for

[00:46:42] them he he was brilliant at the start of season so it's nice to see him back on the score sheet in

[00:46:48] their one nil victory of a salient nitana who are now thinking of bringing back people in zaggy because

[00:46:53] fabul ibrani is not working out for them um other than that i think we've pretty much covered

[00:46:59] anything other than monza winning one nil against calieri guess what it was a maldeni scoring

[00:47:05] under raniere and if we look back at the goals uh parlor maldeni had also scored against

[00:47:11] raniere and against calieri so it's a nice it's a nice story to tell for the mandini

[00:47:16] maldeni father and son duo torino one two nil against udenese i don't know what's going on with

[00:47:23] the denese but they are just an awful team this season um and that's pretty much it niki

[00:47:30] but is um thank you so much everyone for helping us get to a thousand youtube subscribers

[00:47:38] we got there about a day or something maybe just a few hours before patrick so i enjoyed that

[00:47:44] we managed to turn that race into a race and and pip them to the post um thank you so much

[00:47:49] for sporting us um obviously this week coming up we have the international break uh italy have

[00:47:55] uh friendlies against the um against venice weirder and ecrodore uh follow the show in the squad is

[00:48:02] the uh caught up that i think a lot of us are most excited about um curious to see how uh he is going

[00:48:09] to do bear obviously he scored an outrageous goal against Juventus but uh he's been playing well

[00:48:17] recently and and deserves his chance um so we'll definitely have some sort of update during the

[00:48:23] international week um we're not exactly sure what yet all of us obviously have been saying obviously

[00:48:28] a lot i'm sorry guys it's late um but we've we've all been having a very busy run recently so all of

[00:48:34] us are trying to take at least a little bit of downtime in the international window where we can

[00:48:37] grab it as well but we will definitely be along with some sort of update extra focus in the week and

[00:48:42] then we'll be back to round up those italy games and uh to prepare you for the last segment the

[00:48:51] final nine rounds of the city i see isn't after that but uh for now uh that's it from me and i

[00:48:57] and we'll see you ready soon

[00:49:08] you

[00:49:12] city i crockles is a me i crockles production
